About the Role

A leading AI-powered search and productivity platform is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale systems that power advanced AI-driven products. This role is central to creating fast, secure, and reliable infrastructure that serves millions of users, while supporting the mission to deliver transparent, privacy-focused, and user-first technology.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain scalable backend systems for AI-powered applications
  • Enhance platform speed, security, and reliability to support millions of users
  • Develop and optimize SQL/NoSQL databases and data pipelines
  • Reduce technical debt through refactoring and improved architecture
  • Define and enforce best practices for scalability and long-term maintainability
  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams on deployment and monitoring
  • Contribute to and integrate open-source technologies

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with high-performance REST/RPC services
  • Strong background in scalable database design (SQL & NoSQL)
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, deployment pipelines, and system-level debugging
  • Track record in open-source contribution (preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to create maintainable solutions
  • Excellent teamwork and communication abilities for cross-functional collaboration
